Emma in the Library is a short adult VN with a literary twist.
Graphically speaking, it’s done in the style of the CGI renders which have become increasingly popular over the past five years. There’s not a ton of variety, since the only girl you’re actually interacting with is the titular (immature giggle) Emma. That being said, if you like the “naughty librarian” look, and are into blondes, she’s very easy on the eyes. The sound is nothing to write home about, but given how short the game is, it’s hard to really penalize the VN for this. It features all the standard QOL stuff you expect in a modern VN – auto skipping text you’ve already seen, a gallery option, etc. It does all the things it should, and it does them competently.
Where it gets creative is HOW you reach the various endings and scenes. The first part of the game features a bit of time management, where you have to decide whether to do college coursework, or study for Emma’s exam. You naturally want to do good in school, since it’s college, but you also want to do well on Emma’s personal quiz, because, well..SEX. This section is extremely brief, because the dev realizes you’re much more interested in getting to the adult portion of the game, and soon enough, you’re taking a 24 question quiz on various genres of literature. Studying for her quiz will give you the ability to automatically answer her question, assuming you have “study points” in whatever genre she’s asking about. However, you’re also able to use google to get your answers, so HA HA. (And really, taking shortcuts on exams is part of the college experience, isn’t it?)
Depending on how well you do, you’ll get a different outcome. Do poorly, and she’s not even going to be fully naked. Do well, and you’re getting more the bonus plan on your encounter. No spoilers here, but the ending may not be what you’re expecting.
A full run through the game is approximately a half hour, assuming you don’t skip text, so the game is very short, even by adult game standards. However, there’s definitely some replay to be had here. (You’re not likely to get her bonus questions correct on the first run without a guide.) You’re still likely to have seen everything there is to see in roughly two hours at most, and it’s unlikely to be something you’ll revisit once you’re done. Price is definitely a factor here though, and even at full price, it’s only $5 USD. It’s completely worth it for this experience, and doubly so if you find it on sale. This one gets an A rating without any reservations.
