Secret Pie Review

Secret Pie is an adult visual novel that looks good on the outside. After playing it for only a short amount of time, one thing was noticeably apparent: the translation is horrible. I was able to complete the game eventually, but not without some annoying obstacles. Not only is the translation very bad, but there are so many spelling errors too. A machine translation would have been better.

The other problem I had completing this game are the bugs. I would be unable to advance text, save, or do anything besides force quit the game and load from my last save. This happend around half a dozen times on my original play-through.

The story is very chiche and does not provide much (if any) emotional investment for the characters you are to spend your time with. It got to a point where I was so impatient with the terrible english and shallow plot that I just skipped to the scenes.

That aside, the art is very well made. The CG stills and character sprites look great, and the animations are top notch. I’m on the fence as to whether it was worth the trouble getting to them.

The bottom line is this: if english is your only language, don’t buy this game for the story. Unfortunately, it only stands in the way. Check out the art in the screenshots. If you’d like to see similar art with high quality animations, pick this one up. If you’re on the fence, buy it on sale. But if you’re looking for any kind of story that will tie you to these characters, look elsewhere. The artist did a great job, but the programmer and translator should have taken more time to get this one right. Hopefully we see these bugs patched out. Since I’m on the fence I will hesitantly recommend this game.
